Pleurothallis kelsoae is a miniature epiphytic orchid native to Ecuador, prized for its compact growth habit, delicate foliage, and successive small blooms. This species thrives in cool to intermediate conditions, making it well-suited for terrariums, orchidariums, and mounted vivarium culture.
Best grown mounted on cork or tree fern with a moisture-retentive moss layer, it prefers bright, filtered light and consistently high humidity with strong airflow. Temperatures between 57–72°F (14–22°C) are ideal. Plants should remain evenly moist and never be allowed to fully dry out, as the species is sensitive to dehydration.
When potted, a fine-grade orchid mix designed for miniature epiphytes works best. Under proper conditions, Pleurothallis kelsoae produces small, elegant flowers (pic 2) from reclining spathaceous bracts over extended periods.
