Available as a 4 Pack(MiniPack) or 8 Pack (MegaPack) each Medley provides multiple distinct orchids chosen from FrogDaddy propagation stock and current inventory.

Unlike conventional orchids that may quickly outgrow an enclosed display, the emphasis here is on miniature and compact-growing species whose foliage, roots, creeping rhizomes, pseudobulbs, and flowers remain appropriately scaled for life under glass.

Depending on availability, packages may contain orchids from Genera such as Pleurothallis, Specklinia, Epidendrum, Bulbophyllum, Dendrobium, Kefersteinia, Cischweinfia, and other miniature or compact-growing orchids maintained by FrogDaddy. Exact selections continually change as plants grow, flower, divide, and become available for propagation. Each package contains different selections within that package whenever inventory allows. Exact species are grower's choice and cannot be guaranteed.

Built for Life Under Glass

Miniature orchids occupy some of the most fascinating niches in tropical forests. Many grow as epiphytes on branches, trunks, moss-covered bark, and accumulated organic material, while others may establish lithophytically on humid rock or terrestrially in shallow forest debris. Rather than requiring conventional potting soil, many of the orchids selected for the Micro Orchid Medley perform exceptionally well when mounted directly into a naturalistic enclosure. Cork bark, textured hardwood, tree fern fiber, branches, and moss-covered hardscape can all provide excellent growing surfaces. A small amount of sphagnum around the roots can help maintain moisture while plants establish without burying the root system in dense media. This mounted growth creates an entirely different layer of vegetation within a vivarium. Instead of concentrating every plant in the substrate, miniature orchids can occupy branches, backgrounds, rocky ledges, and elevated hardscape—much closer to the way many tropical orchids actually grow in nature.

Small Plants, Remarkable Flowers

The appeal of miniature orchids goes far beyond simply staying small. Some species produce flowers only a few millimeters across, while others carry blooms that appear enormous compared  with the plant supporting them. Flowers may emerge singly, sequentially, or along delicate racemes and can display extraordinarily intricate lips, columns, hairs, spots, translucent tissues, and other structures best appreciated at close range. Many micro orchids are equally interesting when not flowering. Creeping rhizomes, miniature pseudobulbs, succulent foliage, branching stems, and dense colony-forming growth can gradually transform a small mount into a mature epiphytic planting. The close viewing distances provided by a terrarium or vivarium are particularly well suited to plants of this scale.

Growing Your Micro Orchid Medley

Because this package contains multiple genera and species, individual cultivation requirements will vary. Each plant should be identified and its specific requirements considered when deciding where it belongs in the enclosure. As a general group, many miniature tropical orchids appreciate elevated humidity, excellent root aeration, filtered light, dependable moisture, and gentle airflow. High humidity should not be confused with permanently saturated roots; epiphytic orchids frequently experience abundant moisture while growing on surfaces that remain extremely well oxygenated. Temperature requirements can vary substantially, particularly with orchids originating from different elevations. Some selections favor warm tropical conditions, while others perform best under intermediate or cooler conditions with nighttime temperature reduction. For this reason, the Medley is not intended to imply that every orchid should be placed in exactly the same microclimate. Plant identification allows each selection to be positioned according to its individual ecology.

In the Vivarium

The Micro Orchid Medley is designed to make use of the vertical space that often goes unplanted in tropical vivariums. Instead of grouping every orchid together, distribute the plants throughout the enclosure. A creeping species might occupy moss-covered cork, another can establish on a branch, and a compact clumping orchid can become a focal point on an elevated ledge. This approach creates multiple pockets of epiphytic growth and contributes significantly to the layered appearance of a mature tropical forest.  Selections may originate from different countries and continents depending on current inventory, so this package should not be treated as a single-region biotope collection unless specifically stated otherwise.
