Ameerega trivittata are found in Peru, Suriname, and surrounding areas. These frogs are very beautiful and are dark black with teal and green striping that can vary in intensity. They can be shy to moderately bold. They do moderately well in groups, provided that the enclosure is large enough. It is recommended that no more than 2 go into a 10 gallon tank, 3 in a 20 gallon tank, and 4-5 in a 40 gallon tank. There can be some aggression and wrestling, but it is usually minor. Females will generally lay 10 to 20 eggs under leaf litter, on foliage, or under a coconut hut with flat leaves or a petri dish underneath. The frogs will transport tadpoles if left alone. Additional information can be found, of course, through our complimentary Encyclopedia Database: DendroKnow Project.
