Hydrocotyle tripartita is native to Australia and New Zealand and is a fast-growing creeping species prized for its bright green foliage, compact growth habit, and exceptional versatility in terrarium, vivarium, paludarium, and aquarium setups. Native to Australia and New Zealand, this adaptable species forms dense trailing mats of small clover-like leaves connected by thin creeping stems that readily spread across hardscape, substrate, and background surfaces.
In emersed tropical culture, Hydrocotyle tripartita develops a lush carpeting appearance that works beautifully around mosses, driftwood, stones, waterfalls, and humid foreground areas. Its naturally spreading habit allows it to quickly soften hardscape features while adding a vibrant living texture to planted displays.
This species thrives in high humidity and consistently moist conditions but is remarkably adaptable once established. Under bright lighting and stable moisture, it grows rapidly and can easily be trimmed and shaped to maintain compact growth. In vivariums and paludariums, it often climbs vertically across wood, cork, and foam backgrounds while rooting readily along creeping stems.
Hydrocotyle tripartita is especially valued for its ability to create a natural “overgrown jungle” appearance in tropical displays without becoming overly coarse or difficult to manage.
