Begonia variabilis is an uncommon, moderate growing species of tuberous Begonia. It can go dormant and forms tubers. Tubers can be stored in high humidity but do not need to be wet. This species is native from Thailand to Peninsula Malaysia. The leaves are amazing with their green and white speckling. It does well in moderate, indirect light and moderate to high humidity, and appreciates some airflow. Moist soil and sphagnum moss are helpful for rooting this species. Cuttings shipped bareroot with slightly moist Sphagnum moss in plastic. Rooted specimens ship in pot or bareroot / plug depending on conditions and location.
All of our cuttings have adventitious, aerial roots. Our rooted specimens will have at least a few active roots and will be established plants. Our plants are grown in high humidity in terrariums and greenhouses, therefore may need acclimation to the average home humidity / environment. Please contact us for acclimation information if you are not planning to use this plant in a terrarium, greenhouse, or humid room.
