Begonia pavonina hails from Malaysia. It is a moderate growing species of Begonia that is highly prized for its blue / purple reflective dorsal coloration. If under the proper lighting, this Begonia can look very blue! It has red coloration on the ventral side of the leaf, and is often copper in color without the proper angle (to see the blue). We only recommend growing this species in a greenhouse or terrarium. It does well in moderate, indirect light and high humidity, and appreciates some airflow. Moist soil and sphagnum moss are helpful for rooting this species. Cuttings shipped bareroot with slightly moist Sphagnum moss in plastic. Rooted specimens ship in pot or bareroot / plug depending on conditions and location.
All of our cuttings have adventitious, aerial roots. Our rooted specimens will have at least a few active roots and will be established plants. Our plants are grown in high humidity in terrariums and greenhouses, therefore may need acclimation to the average home humidity / environment. Please contact us for acclimation information if you are not planning to use this plant in a terrarium, greenhouse, or humid room.
