Derived from Anubias barteri, a species native to the tropical riverbanks and rainforest waterways of West Africa, Anubias barteri ‘Coin Leaf’ is a compact cultivar prized for its rounded foliage, durable growth habit, and exceptional adaptability to humid emersed environments. This unique form develops thick circular leaves with a deep green coloration, giving it a clean structured appearance that stands out beautifully in terrariums, vivariums, and paludariums.
In emersed culture, ‘Coin Leaf’ develops especially sturdy foliage and compact rhizomatous growth, making it ideal for mounting on driftwood, cork bark, lava rock, and tropical hardscape. Its slow controlled growth and tolerance for a wide range of conditions make it an excellent choice for both beginner and advanced planted displays.
This cultivar thrives in warm humid environments with moderate lighting and consistently moist conditions. Like other Anubias varieties, it should not have its rhizome buried, instead performing best when attached to hardscape or placed gently atop substrate. Its durable leaves also make it highly suitable for bioactive vivariums and long-term tropical setups.
Anubias barteri ‘Coin Leaf’ is especially valued for its miniature tropical appearance and ability to add lush greenery without overwhelming smaller enclosures.
