Begonia aff hitchkockii (went around as tropaeolifolia for many years) is a rare, slow growing species of Gobenia section Begonia native to Ecuador and Peru. It has dark greenish maroon leaves that are covered in bright white spots. With lower humidity and light, the leaves will gain a very strong purple sheen...this is the pinnacle of its appearance, but must be done after it has a thick root system. It does well in moderate, indirect light and high humidity. It does not like water sitting on its leaves. Moist sphagnum moss are helpful for rooting this species. Give it some space to climb. This Begonia can fill in background areas nicely. If you do not have experience rooting these types of Begonia, do not purchase. They can be hard!!

All of our cuttings have adventitious, aerial roots. Our rooted specimens will have at least a few active roots and will be established plants. Our plants are grown in high humidity in terrariums and greenhouses, therefore may need acclimation to the average home humidity / environment. Please contact us for acclimation information if you are not planning to use this plant in a terrarium, greenhouse, or humid room.
