Bulk sizes - 4lbs and 8lbs are equivalent to our ShroomRoom 6.6lbs and 13.2lbs offerings, as the ShroomRoom product is pre-hydrated while ours is shipped dry.
GeoForm Clay Sticky Soil Terrarium Putty is a dry clay, to be mixed with water to create a tacky, biologically friendly mounting substrate designed for moss walls, root zones, cork backgrounds, and naturalistic terrarium detailing. Our companion product ShroomRoom TropicalClay is pre-hydrated, hence the bulk weight differences. Its soft mud-like texture adheres easily to cork bark, wood, rock, foam, and other objects while helping moss spores, fragments, and small plant roots remain in place during establishment.
Unlike rigid sculpting clays, GeoForm Clay stays slightly re-wettable and moisture retentive, making it ideal for moss propagation, nano terrariums, lightweight living walls, and organic hardscape accents.
Perfect for use with our incredible lineup of moss products in our Bryo-series and our ShroomRoom products from Poland such as: BryoSpore, BryoBrick (in its dehydrated / fragment form), ShroomRoom MossMix, Vivarium Vine Vault (our great epiphyte package with moss), and other products. It is not to be used with BryoBlend (wet moss mix) directly, and may need BryoBond (coming soon!) to help anchor wet moss, so we strongly encourage the use of our dehydrated and full-dry products.
Basic Directions (see extended directions below):
1. This mix comes dry, in 0.5lb bag increments. When you are ready to use, simply pour 3/4 cup of water, agitate, then remove wetted clay from bag. Alternatively, if you are using a large batch, simply mix with water for slightly sticky, moldable putty texture.
2. Spread a thin layer onto cork, wood, rock, foam, or other clays. If pressing directly to glass, remember that the layer cannot be much more than 0.5 inches thick without other structural elements to enhance strength. Keep humidity high and do not let the clay dry out.
3. Let dry for a few hours for best results with BryoBase or MossBase application. These products can go directly on top of GeoForm Clay. You do not have to let GeoForm Clay dry before adding BryoBase or SR MossBase, but it may help adhesion.
3. Apply BryoSpore, ShroomRoom MossMix, dehydrated fragments from BryoBrick, or other products directly onto the surface of GeoForm Clay OR where you put BryoBase / MossBase. Putting down BryoBase or MossBase first is always best, but not fully required. You can no plant vines and other epiphytic plants directly into the clay! Do not plant orchids into the clay or any epiphytic plant that requires heavy airflow at the roots.
4. Mist lightly and maintain high humidity during establishment.
For steep vertical applications or very wet moss slurries, like our famous BryoBlend, BryoBond may be used for additional grip. You can see its use case under that product page.
Use Cases:
Moss walls and moss panels
Nano terrariums
Cork bark and branch detailing
Root wraps and epiphyte mounting
Lightweight living backgrounds
Naturalistic mud and shoreline textures
Extended Directions:
GEOFORM OVER FOAM (EXPANDING FOAM BACKGROUNDS)
Foam is:
Hydrophobic
Non-porous
Chemically inert
GeoForm will not bond chemically — it relies on mechanical tooth.
Required Prep
Before GeoForm:
Rough the foam surface, carve texture, or coat with structural clays.
Application Steps
Apply GeoForm slightly thicker (2–3 mm)
Press into foam texture
Do NOT overwater
Allow 10–15 minutes set time before moss
On bare smooth foam, GeoForm is temporary
GEOFORM OVER WOOD (CORK, HARDWOOD, BRANCHES)
Why wood is different:
Absorbs water unevenly
Can wick moisture away too fast
Natural surface oils vary
Application Steps
Lightly mist wood first (do not soak)
Apply GeoForm thin (1 mm)
Press firmly into grain or pores
Allow 5–10 minutes partial set
Excellent for:
Cork bark
Driftwood
Branch mounting
