Corytoplectus cutucuensis is a rare tropical gesneriad species native to humid cloud forest of the Cutucu mountains in Ecuador. This exceptional plant is prized for its dramatic textured foliage, compact upright growth habit, and outstanding suitability for high-humidity terrariums and vivariums. Its richly veined leaves develop a lush tropical appearance that stands out beautifully among mosses, miniature orchids, and other humidity-loving species.
Under ideal conditions, Corytoplectus cutucuensis produces attractive tubular flowers that contrast nicely against its bold foliage. The combination of ornamental leaves and episodic blooming makes this species especially desirable for collectors of rare tropical understory plants.
This species thrives in warm, consistently humid conditions with excellent airflow and evenly moist substrate. It performs best in enclosed terrariums, greenhouse cabinets, and tropical vivarium systems where humidity remains elevated year-round. Bright filtered light encourages compact growth and strong coloration while avoiding stress from direct exposure.
Though somewhat uncommon in cultivation, Corytoplectus cutucuensis can become a rewarding and vigorous specimen once acclimated, developing into a lush focal point for tropical displays.
All of our cuttings have adventitious, aerial roots. Our rooted specimens will have at least a few active roots and will be established plants. Our plants are grown in high humidity in terrariums and greenhouses, therefore may need acclimation to the average home humidity / environment. Please contact us for acclimation information if you are not planning to use this plant in a terrarium, greenhouse, or humid room.
