The clay will be shipped to you dry in a bag as shown in picture 2. You want to start with 1 cup and add a \u003cstrong\u003eslight\u003c\/strong\u003e bit more, going up to 1\/4 cup. You will need to add 1 cup of water and then a bit more, usually 1\/8-1\/4 cup more, to the bag and agitate thoroughly, making sure the zipper stays sealed before agitating. It should be a thick consistency. Cut the bag along the corner to make a makeshift piping bag like you see for icing! Evenly distribute clay (looks great, right - haha) into each of your 5 cups. Each bag of clay makes a 5 count of springtail cups. Using your gloved hand or a spreading tool such as a wooden shim or spoon to spread clay around each cup. If media is too wet and doesn't form, don't worry, just wait a few hours and check again and try and spread. Once clay is the proper consistency, it should spread easily and then stay in place. After this, you have to “seed” the culture, which means you must dump in adult springtails from another culture to start them. There are no eggs in the clay.
