These frogs have beautiful turquoise bodies, with a metallic bronze reticulation. This frog is moderately shy, and does well in groups. They get bolder with age and exposure, like others of their species. There will be some aggression and wrestling between females, while males do not tend to partake in fighting often. Despite this, you can keep a decently large group of frogs together, even as adults, provided that there are plenty of hiding places and food available. There has been plenty of empirical evidence of male on female aggression as well, with the female as the aggressor. A trio is the maximum size for a 55-75 gallon tank, but this is usually not advised. Please do not place more than two in one enclosure at adulthood, unless it is a 2.1.0 (two males and one female). As a pair, the female will usually lay 4 to 10 eggs on glossy leaves, but they can have larger clutches. Thick leaves (such as Philodendron, Costus, etc), thick leaf litter (such as magnolia), or a petri dish underneath a coconut hut works well for breeding. Please let us know if you have any questions. Additional information can be found, of course, through our complimentary Encyclopedia Database: DendroKnow Project.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0107/5501/4715/products/IMG_3978_769c5cad-b219-4cc7-b15f-177016335034.jpg?v=1625170302
dendrobates-tinctorius-lorenzo-tadpole
Dendrobates tinctorius "Lorenzo" Tadpole

Dendrobates tinctorius “Lorenzo”.

Line: UE.

Unknown Filial Generation.

Dendrobates tinctorius "Lorenzo" hail from Brazil. Despite this, you can keep a decently large group of frogs together, even as adults, provided that there are plenty of hiding places and food available. Most of the issues arise from female to female aggression. All tinctorius are very territorial, and defend large areas in the wild. Females are aggressive, and fight for dominance over access to males. There has been plenty of empirical evidence of male on female aggression as well, with the female as the aggressor. A trio is the maximum size for a 55-75 gallon tank, but this is usually not advised. Minor egg eating may occur from rival females, but often groups display minimal to no aggression. No more than a trio should go in a 10 gallon vertical conversion tank or a 12 x 12 x 18 ExoTerra tank, and we advise larger enclosures to prevent escapees. These frogs are very beautiful and are dark black with teal and green striping that can vary in intensity. They can be shy to moderately bold. They do moderately well in groups, provided that the enclosure is large enough. It is recommended that no more than 2 go into a 10 gallon tank, 3 in a 20 gallon tank, and 4-5 in a 40 gallon tank. There can be some aggression and wrestling, but it is usually minor. Females will generally lay 10 to 20 eggs under leaf litter, on foliage, or under a coconut hut with flat leaves or a petri dish underneath. The frogs will transport tadpoles if left alone. Additional information can be found, of course, through our complimentary Encyclopedia Database: DendroKnow Project.

DO NOT USE PHOTOS WITHOUT PERMISSION. They display a wonderful variety of colors and are highly sought after. These frogs can only be housed in groups as juveniles to sub adults, and even then it becomes risky as they near adulthood.

Dendrobates truncatus "Blue".

Line: Todd Kelly

Unknown filial generation from related parents.

Dendrobates truncatus "Blue" hail from Columbia. These are beautiful frogs that have an intense sky-blue metallic lines, with pitch black backs. Females will generally lay 4 to 10 eggs under leaf litter or a coconut hut with flat leaves or a petri dish underneath. They will then transport tadpoles to a body of water, like tinctorius. However, you may pull the eggs and raise them yourself. If left alone, the tadpoles will cannibalize.
